People Operations Manager
At Red Rover, we believe there is no greater calling than to serve those who are shaping the minds of our future generations. K-12 education has become increasingly complex. Schools are expected to do more with less while also handling uncharted social situations—and they deserve better. Join us as we build and service creative, intuitive software solutions for school administration that help put the best educators in every school, every day.
We keep our organization relatively flat and talent-rich. We believe this helps us respond quickly to customer needs without a lot of red tape. Our remote-first team thrives on context, candor, creativity, and (a whole lot of) customer empathy.

Who you are

You’re a people-centric servant leader who thrives in a high-autonomy, remote-first environment. You believe the primary purpose of People Ops is to make sure that Red Rover continues to be an amazing place to work. This starts with genuinely caring for our team members and championing our culture and values. You understand this requires the thoughtful upkeep of processes, systems, and benefits needed to engage and manage a growing team.
You recognize that exceptional distributed teams succeed because of talent density, candor, and context, and are adept at implementing processes that serve those types of teams. With sharp pattern recognition for scaling challenges at the 100-person mark, you intuitively identify minimal viable solutions that preserve what makes our team special.
You’re a self-starter comfortable wearing multiple hats. You possess strong ethics and discretion paired with a keen balance of empathy and business acumen. Though process-oriented, you remain flexible and adapt your approach based on context and the unique needs of the organization.
Currently eager for this hands-on role, you demonstrate the strategic thinking and execution capabilities to direct People Ops at Red Rover as the company scales.

What you’ll do

Attract Top Talent

  • Refine our recruiting engine to maintain high talent density

  • Design compensation approaches that attract top talent from around the country

  • Suggest and implement improvements to current onboarding processes to ensure new hires thrive

Enable High Performance & Development

  • Serve as trusted advisor to leadership on talent strategy

  • Develop retention and career progression frameworks that keep top performers engaged while preserving freedom and responsibility

  • Ensure compensation strategies reinforce high performance

  • Build leadership capabilities and develop succession plans through targeted development initiatives

  • Establish feedback systems that foster candor and align with our core values

Champion Culture & Values

  • Exemplify and reinforce principles of candor & context, freedom & responsibility, and trust in a remote-first environment

  • Embody servant leadership by prioritizing team needs and removing obstacles to success

  • Gather employee insights and continuously evolve our culture while holding our core values constant

  • Design recognition practices that reinforce the intent and meaning of our core values

  • Enable effective transmission of our culture and values to new team members

  • Handle sensitive situations professionally with discretion and judgment

Streamline Operations & Processes

  • Balance compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions with our culture of minimal bureaucracy

  • Manage benefits programs and maintain intuitive employee self-service solutions

  • Create & maintain documentation that emphasizes principles over policies

  • Build scalable processes that don’t compromise organizational agility

  • Create offboarding approaches that capture valuable insights

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field

  • 3+ years of experience in People Operations or related roles

  • Proven track record supporting high-performance teams with minimal management layers

  • Experience leading people functions in remote or distributed organizations

  • Demonstrated ability to balance structure with autonomy in fast-growing environments

  • Strong understanding of compensation strategies that drive both attraction and performance

  • Experience building lightweight people systems that scale effectively

  • Track record of preserving and evolving culture during significant growth

  • Experience handling sensitive employee matters with discretion and good judgment

  • Strong understanding of HR compliance requirements and pragmatic implementation

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with HRIS and collaboration tools for remote teams

  • Demonstrated learning agility and adaptability to changing environments

What Success Looks Like

  • The team maintains high retention, job satisfaction, and performance while scaling quickly

  • New hires continue to reach a high talent bar while streamlining the hiring process.

  • The company’s culture and values transmit effectively to new hires

  • Complex situations are handled professionally and discreetly, with minimal disruption.

  • Leaders spend less time on operational tasks
